Release DVD ‘Love in Maastricht’ and CD ‘Romantic Moments’ II

"Love in Maastricht’ is the spectacular 2018 Open-Air Concert with special Guests Los del Rio with “Macarena” and CD album ‘Romantic Moments II’ featuring 16 beautiful melodies, hits from the world’s famous movies, ballads and classical songs that have touched the hearts of millions for centuries.

André Rieu gives special open-air concerts each year in his home town Maastricht. Annually, tens of thousands flock from all corners of the world to attend one of the most emotional live music experiences possible, set against the beautiful backdrop of the medieval town square. Fans can now enjoy this unique concert experience in their own living rooms, as André Rieu is set to release his eagerly awaited 'Love in Maastricht' DVD, broadcast in cinemas and on TV, on 22 March.

With a record number of 13 events, André Rieu thrilled more than 150,000 fans from 80 countries on the Vrijthof square! 28 cameras captured the most memorable and emotional moments on the stage and among concertgoers over three days. Recorded live in July 2018, the DVD features thirty fantastic tracks: romantic waltzes, popular arias such as 'Nessun Dorma' from Giacomo Puccini, world-famous melodies including 'Granada', 'You’ll Never Walk Alone', the 'Snow Waltz', and the 'Radetzky March'; global hits like 'Can’t Help Falling In Love', and goosebumps-inducing interpretations of 'You Raise Me Up' and 'Lara’s Theme' from famous film 'Doctor Zhivago'. 

André Rieu is unparalleled in his ability to interact with his audience from the stage and succeeds in getting everyone up on their feet with his fantastic blend of waltzes, music from movies, musicals, and the opera, and hit songs. Of course, viewers can look forward to a number of very special guest stars this time around as well:  Los del Rio kept the great mood going at the end of the concert with their global hit 'Macarena', turning the Vrijthof into one of the largest open-air dance floors in the world, crowned by an amazing fireworks display in the night sky over Maastricht.

Romantic Moments II’ features beautiful evergreen melodies, hits from the world’s famous movies, ballads and classical songs that have touched the hearts of millions for centuries. Romantic classics on the album range from ‘Strangers in the Night’, 'Sunrise, Sunset', ‘The Way Old Friends Do’ and ‘Red Roses for a Blue Lady’ to traditional songs like ‘Amazing Grace’ and ‘El cóndor pasa’, classical melodies like the ‘Vilja Song’, beloved waltzes like ‘By the Beautiful Blue Danube’ as well as music from films like ‘Fiddler on the Roof’ or ‘The Sound of Music’.

André Rieu says: “Romance has played a very big part in my life ever since I was a child. I started playing the violin at the age of five. My mother chose it for me and she was right. For me the violin is the most romantic instrument in the world.”

André Rieu is a global superstar and musical phenomenon and a true “Maestro of the Masses” (New York Times). He also boasts over 500 Platinum Awards to his name. Since André Rieu founded the Johann Strauss Orchestra (the biggest private orchestra in the world) 30 years ago, he has created a global revival of waltz music. A true romantic himself, André has been married for over 40 years and lives with his wife Marjorie in a historic castle, built in 1452 in his hometown of Maastricht/Netherlands. The couple has two sons and five grandchildren.
